Candidate Forum Closing Statement

Thank you again to the League of Women Voters for hosting this forum and thank you to everyone who gave your time to be here tonight.

Anyone can tell you what they would do, if elected. But I can SHOW you what I have already done.

For 12 years, I served Brooklyn Center on the Financial Commission. For the past four years, I have had the privilege of serving on the City Council and as Mayor Pro Tem. Throughout that time, I have represented this city with integrity, honesty, and accountability, and that is exactly how I will continue to serve as your mayor.

But my service did not begin when I was elected, and it does not only happen during campaign season. Long before I ever ran for office, I was serving people by volunteering at hospitals, crisis centers, churches, and community organizations. I have always believed in showing up when people need help, when they need someone to listen, and when they need someone willing to stand beside them.

That is who I am.  Because service is what I believe in.

I do not wait until campaign season to knock on doors, attend community events, or engage with residents. I have been present, and I will continue to be present.

I am excited about Brooklyn Center and about our city’s next chapter. I am grateful for everyone who believes that we deserve better and understands that achieving better will require all of us working together.
